- SKIING HISTORY:
- A native of Boston, MA, 25 year-old free skier Matt Philippi left home for Sugarloaf, ME to ski full time and never looked back. Now based out of Salt Lake City, UT, Philippi turned pro his senior year of high school and has since put together an impressive slate of accomplishments in the pipe and park competitive circuit. Philippi has since taking his skiing to the natural terrain and deep snow outside of the halfpipe. Matt’s sponsors include Volkl/Marker, Tecnica, DNA Clothing, Level Gloves, and Bollé.
This summer Matt Philippi is traveling down to Peru with fellow pro skiers for the second round of The FullCircle Project: a community service and skiing documentary. Last year, Philippi -- along with several other local professional skiers, cinematographers and photographers – traveled to the Bío Bío region of Chile and spent two weeks building a kindergarten and playground for those who were displaced. This year TFCP has decided to help another mountain community in need, and will be heading to the rural highlands of the Urubamba Province near Cusco, Peru. They want to make a lasting and sustainable change for the prominently indigenous Maras community, and have agreed to help by planting 1,000 fruit-bearing Sambucus Nigra trees. “The earthquake was a great wake-up call for us to take action,” said Philippi. “But there are so many mountain communities around the world that have been silently been suffering for years. So we’re really looking forward to helping a community in need that may have otherwise gone overlooked.”
